The Indicador de Alfabetismo Funcional (INAF) is a research designed in partnership with the Paulo Montenegro Institute, aiming to measure the literacy level of the Brazilian population from 15 to 64 years old, evaluating their reading, writing and calculating skills applied to everyday life.
Throughout its 15 years, the diagnoses were published with the proposal of fomenting public debate, stimulating initiatives of civil society, subsidizing the formulation of public policies in the areas of education and culture, and collaborating to monitor their performance.
In addition to national surveys, INAF instruments have been used in special studies to diagnose learning needs of specific populations and evaluate educational programs.
