Observatório da Educação aims to produce and disseminate information, promote plurality of opinions in the public debate on education, and subsidize the media, educational agents and social movements in the social control of educational policies and in the promotion of education as a human right.
It was created in 2002, from the finding that the information circulating about education was conducted almost exclusively by governments. Fifteen years later, this scenario changed and new voices appeared in public opinion. However, students, education professionals and communities continue to be poorly heard in the debate and formulation of educational proposals.
In order to promote the human right to quality education for all, Observatório da Educação produces reports, interviews and articles, suggests themes and sources for journalists, publishes surveys and research, requests information, monitors education councils, conferences and commissions of Legislative organs and promotes social participation.
