This publication explores the intersections between literacy and literacy practices in the world of work.

Support: Paulo Montenegro Institute

This special study is the result of more than three years of work by Ação Educativa’s and Paulo Montenegro Institute’s teams of professionals. The methodology and results of the Indicador de Alfabetismo Funcional (Inaf) were analyzed and reflected as a way of celebrating the first decade of this initiative in 2011, when the last report of Inaf Brasil was launched. From 2012 to 2015, a group of experts from the most varied fields of knowledge produced a series of analyses from the consolidated microdata banks of ten years of research in order to elaborate Literacy in Brazil: 10 years of Inaf, published in 2015 by Editora Autêntica.

Based on the reflections of all the specialists involved, we have advanced not only in the analysis of the available data, but also in the reflection on the potentialities and limits of the methodology adopted by Inaf. With a view to improving it, the teams from Ação Educativa and Paulo Montenegro Institute had the support of specialists and more focused studies to address central issues brought by the 10-year analyses and the accumulation of experience of the institutions involved in this period, in exploring, above all, the intersections between literacy and literacy practices in the world of work and the use of digital information and communication technologies (ICT) – this last one from the multilevel perspective.
