In this edition, Inaf focuses for the third time on the reading and writing skills and practices of the young and adult population (from 15 to 64 years old) in Brazil, making it possible to verify their evolution in relation to 2001 and 2003, when the same study was carried out. In the years 2002 and 2004, Inaf’s focus was on mathematical skills.
Inaf’s goal is to provide qualified information so that society and governments can assess the situation of the population regarding one of the main results of school education: the ability to access and process written information as a tool to meet the daily demands, to get informed and to continue learning through life.
In addition to the picture of the general situation and the characterization of the different levels of literacy, Inaf highlights results related to the young population, in order to verify the reach of the recent advances of the Brazilian school system, as well as the potentialities and necessities of this segment.
