América Latina Hoje (Latin America Today)

As a result of the self-organized activity carried out in the framework of the World Social Forum 2016, this publication presents analyses on the perspectives of the left in different countries of the region.

Support: Open Society Foundation

Latin America has, since the beginning of this twenty-first century, lived a political cycle that has led progressive parties to governments in a large portion of the region. By catalysing popular struggles, several of these governments promoted redistributive and progressive initiatives, with advances in the social field and the promotion of rights. However, these governments have failed to reverse tendencies to dismantling welfare and to build a sustainable development option. Thus, we now live a reversal of this so-called progressive cycle.
