Guia Tô no Rumo: Jovens e Escolha Profissional (Guide I’m on the Path: Young People and Professional Choice)

This material is the result of a work carried out since 2007 with teachers and High School students, aiming at helping schools to become places where young people think about future projects. The guide is composed of suggestions for activities, with practical tips for educators; supporting texts to contextualize the issues discussed; support materials for the activities; and suggestions of movies, websites, and books.

This publication is the result of seven years of collective work involving technicians from Ação Educativa, teachers and high school students from public schools of the state of São Paulo. These were the individuals who organized themselves around the project Jovens Agentes pelo Direito à Educação (JADE) (Young Agents for the Right to Education), an initiative that had as its goal to contribute to the improvement of the quality of high school, through the construction of a curriculum more connected to the demands and needs of young people.

In addition to the step-by-step instructions for organizing the workshops, the guide has supporting texts on the subjects related to the challenges and possible ways of realizing the rights of girls and boys with regard to education and work, as well as their possibilities of making choices in these areas. Educators will also find models of materials that can be reproduced for the realization of workshops and the conduction of activities. The publication also has a section dedicated to references of websites, videos and complementary texts that can be used complementarily for the construction of new proposals.

The activities are presented in a very didactic way, containing information about their goals, time and materials needed for their conduction and suggestions for discussion. They can be done in the sequence they are presented in the guide, which is relatively coincident with that which the partner schools of the project consolidated in their experiences. However, the sequence does not constitute a “straitjacket”. Every teacher can adapt the activity suggestions to their reality and the demands of their students, choosing priority themes or creating new dynamics and educational work situations.
