Letramentos em espaços educativos não escolares: os jovens, a leitura e a escrita (Literacies in non-school educational spaces: young people, reading and writing)

This publication has as its starting point the challenge of working, outside the school, with the difficulties that many young people have with reading, writing and calculations. Roughly, these problems are identified as responsible for limiting the autonomy of the young people in the accomplishment of different training activities, affecting even their permanence in the different initiatives. These issues encouraged a project carried out in 2009 by Ação Educativa with educators from social organizations, mainly from vocational courses, specialists and researchers.

They related to a diverse range of difficulties faced in the context of the projects carried out in these organizations: the motivation of young people to start and remain in projects, the training of educators to the autonomy of participants to perform tasks involving specific literacy and numeracy, such as recording the courses already completed, completing their registration or producing a resumé.

The work had the advice and was systematized by Márcia Mendonça, a professor in the Department of Applied Linguistics at Unicamp, with experience in teacher training, curricular proposals for youths and adults, and consulting to education secretariats and NGOs, along with Clecio dos Santos Bunzen Júnior, PhD in Applied Linguistics and professor at the UFPE Education Center and at the post-graduate program in Education at UNIFESP.
