Que Ensino Médio Queremos? (Which High School Do We Want?)

In partnership with five public state schools in the east area of the city of São Paulo, Ação Educativa promoted the mobilization of school communities into the discussion about the “high school we want” and presents in this report the results of this collective effort.

Support: Norwegian Church Aid

The quantitative survey was carried out by Ação Educativa in the first stage of the project Jovens Agentes pelo Direito à Educação (JADE) (Young Agents for the Right to Education). All the work was mediated by 20 young people linked to the five partner schools, which were trained by Ação Educativa as young agents for the right to education.

The accomplishment of the survey had as its goals:

  • – Know the profile and opinions of regular high school students regarding their school life;
  • – Confirm the expectations and meanings attributed to secondary education by students;
  • – Produce data that support the five public schools’ reflection regarding their pedagogical proposal, and foster the construction of changes and educational innovations;
  • – Produce data that support a reflection on the public policies of secondary education in the state of São Paulo. Self-fulfillment questionnaires were applied to 880 students from five partner public schools, carried out and conducted by the 20 youngsters, always with the presence and support of Ação Educativa’s team. The period of application of the questionnaires was from June 18 to 26, 2007.
